Responsible Service
Read and reflect on Matthew 24:45-47.
“Who then are the faithful and wise servants whom their master puts in charge of giving food at the right time to those who live in his house? 46 Happy are those servants whom the master finds fulfilling their responsibilities when he comes. 47 I assure you that he will put them in charge of all his possessions.
In this Scripture, Jesus taught a lesson about serving God faithfully. As followers of Christ, we have a responsibility and are privileged to serve. Sometimes we think of serving as something we should do, instead of a responsibility to which we are committed. God has entrusted us with gifts that can effect positive change in this fallen world.
Responsibility requires accountability and, when the Lord returns, each of us must account for the fulfillment of the opportunities we have been given to serve. According to Scripture, those who fulfill their responsibilities will be rewarded. I don’t know what the rewards will be, but to be found faithful by my Savior will be more than enough for me!
