Let's Talk About the Power to Live Fruitfully

by Kevin Alton

Galatians 5:22-26

But the fruit of the Spirit is love, joy, peace, patience, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, gentleness, and self-control. There is no law against things like this. Those who belong to Christ Jesus have crucified the self with its passions and its desires. If we live by the Spirit, let’s follow the Spirit. Let’s not become arrogant, make each other angry, or be jealous of each other. —Galatians 5:22-26

Commentary:

The apostle Paul wrote to the churches in Galatia encouraging them to live and be led by the Holy Spirit. Paul assured them that a Spirit-filled life would produce good things and prevent conflict and division among them. The Holy Spirit still produces good fruit in the lives of believers who follow the Spirit. When we are led by the Spirit, we can unselfishly live in peace with others. The good fruit we produce not only benefits our personal lives but also is beneficial to others and glorifies Christ.

Questions to Discuss:

Is there a fruit of the Spirit you want to produce more of in your life?

What do you think it means to crucify self?

In what ways are you living by and following the Holy Spirit?
