Let's Talk About Serving Despite Mistakes

by Rose Taylor

Acts 9:15-17

The Lord replied, “Go! This man is the agent I have chosen to carry my name before Gentiles, kings, and Israelites. I will show him how much he must suffer for the sake of my name.” Ananias went to the house. He placed his hands on Saul and said, “Brother Saul, the Lord sent me—Jesus, who appeared to you on the way as you were coming here. He sent me so that you could see again and be filled with the Holy Spirit.” —Acts 9:15-17

Commentary:

Saul, who became Paul, was a terror to Christians of that time. He hunted them down, had them arrested, and then severely punished and persecuted them. When Saul was blinded by God on a journey to capture more Christians, the Lord instructed Ananias, a Christian, to lay hands on Saul and heal his blindness. Understandably Ananias was reluctant to go, but the Lord assured Ananias that despite Saul’s past evil deeds, Paul would serve as a messenger and witness for Christ. Ananias’ obedience led to Paul’s salvation experience.

Questions to Discuss:

Have you ever felt unworthy or incapable of serving due to past mistakes you’ve made?

How might those mistakes have strengthened you for service now and in the future?
