Let's Talk About Freedom

by Rose Taylor

Galatians 5:13-14

You were called to freedom, brothers and sisters; only don’t let this freedom be an opportunity to indulge your selfish impulses, but serve each other through love. All the Law has been fulfilled in a single statement: Love your neighbor as yourself. —Galatians 5:13-14

Commentary:

Paul reminded the Galatians (and us!) they had been given freedom in Christ, but with freedom comes great responsibility. Christians are not given freedom to act in selfishness. Our freedom is meant to be used to serve others with extravagant love. Freedom is for all.

Questions to discuss:

How can freedom lead to selfish impulses?

In what ways can we serve through love?

What are the differences/similarities in Christian freedom and national freedom?
