Let's Talk About Appreciating the Nurture

by Rose Taylor

1 Thessalonians 2:11-12

Likewise, you know how we treated each of you like a father treats his own children. We appealed to you, encouraged you, and pleaded with you to live lives worthy of the God who is calling you into his own kingdom and glory. —1 Thessalonians 2:11-12

Commentary:

The apostle Paul was the founder of the church in Thessalonica. He had great concern for the people there and wrote a letter of encouragement to them. Paul reminded them of the nurture he had given them when he was present with them—the same kind of nurture that a father would give to his children. Nurturing can be a continuous process; and although Paul was not physically present, he was providing nurture through his letter. Paul wanted the people to grow and develop spiritually and to serve Christ in the best manner possible.

Questions to Discuss:

What is your definition of nurture?

In what ways do you feel you have been nurtured by a loved one?

How have you nurtured others?
