Von’s paternal ancestors were Mennonites who emigrated to the United States in the 1870s and settled in the Dakotas and western Kansas, bringing with them the Turkey Red Wheat that helped to turn Kansas into the bread basket of the world. Von is the author of several books and articles published by Discipleship Resources, Abingdon Press, and Cokesbury.
Von has retired to his maternal grandparents’ farm in northwest Arkansas, where he is the third-generation caretaker of land that was once Native American hunting grounds.
